Academic life
I am a graduate student at Clemson University and this portfolio is part of my master’s degree defense in the Master of Arts in Writing, Rhetoric, and Media (M.A.W.R.M.) program.
My academic interests include teaching Writing and Rhetorics, English Literature, digital literacy, multimodal composition, information design, and web/social media content writing.
Following my graduation from Clemson University, I plan to pursue a career as an Adjunct English Instructor.
I also have great interest in tutoring students one-to-one. During my first year in the M.A.W.R.M. program, I worked as a Writing Consultant at the Writing Center at Clemson University.
I currently teach English Composition and Rhetorical Theory to First Year students at Clemson University.
As a First Year Composition (FYC) instructor, I focus on research and multimodality, which includes digital publishing and composing for unique interfaces.
My interest in digital literacy started as I developed whiteboard animation videos based on literary texts that aimed to be used as pedagogical tools in the multimodal classroom.
Such whiteboard animation videos were presented at the University System of Georgia Teaching and Learning Conference hosted by the University of Georgia in March 2017 and at the Sigma Tau Delta North Georgia Regional Conference held by the English Department at the UNG-Gainesville in Fall 2016.
My teaching experience also includes a position as a Teacher’s Assistant for Elementary Spanish at the UNG-Gainesville Modern Languages Lab, when I was earning a Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Georgia, majoring in English Literature with a minor in the Spanish language.
Plus, I worked as a Writing Fellow and Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Embedded Tutor with UNG’s Writing Fellows Program.
I hold a B.A. in English Literature from the University of North Georgia (UNG), an A.A. in Spanish from Georgia Perimeter College and a B. A. in Journalism from the Catholic University of Pernambuco located in Recife, Brazil.
Hobbies and Whatnot
I love to recharge my creative spirit by travelling. I have fun photographing and documenting my trips in unique ways, as seen in the Adobe Spark Post (comic page) below. I enjoy visiting antique shops and collecting antiques.
My family and I visited the shop Antiques Archeology, the home store of the American Pickers TV show, featuring Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz.
It was hard to refrain from buying that gorgeous typewriter (as seen in the bottom right photo of this comic post). But, I did own a very similar antique typewriter already. I am very fond of country music and the city of Nashville, TN, but my favorite destinations are any of the warm beaches of the Atlantic Ocean either in Florida or along the East Coast of Brazil.
I also have two fur-children April Bluesky, 6, and Aria Tempest, 5. They are both rescue babies that I met while fostering dogs with the non-profit Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.
This cutie wearing a Halloween-themed sweater, in the photo to the right, was our first family doggie. My son and I found her roaming around our neighborhood and chewing on a huge piece of broken curb. After many attempts to find her owners, we decided to welcome her to our family. We named her Pebble, and she gave us 11 years of her precious life, bringing us much joy.
April Bluesky goes with me almost everywhere I go. In this photo, we were traveling to Clemson University for a day full of learning adventures. She rides like a pro!
(Photo left; Aria and April checking out the streets in our neighborhood).
Aria Tempest is full of energy and is known as Hurricane Aria. That is because she blows through our house like a wind whirl, waking everyone up in the mornings. She can push doors open and jump up high, specially is she sees other animals along the top of the fence in our house’s backyard.
